L. H. Hamilton papers, 1832-1842.

The collection consists of manuscript letters, 1832-1842, addressed to and from L.H. and C.S. Hamilton of Augusta, Georgia, and from other merchants in Milledgeville, Georgia, and New York, N.Y. Most of the merchandise mentioned in the letters appears to have been textiles, hardware, and agricultural tools. Discussed are supply and demand, shipment, payment, profits, and the effect of English textiles on the American market. Mentioned also are other merchants in various southern states. This correspondence well exhibits North-South trade patterns before the Civil War.
